Selecting taps and mixers
Balance fit, finish and everyday comfort.
Measure before choosing
Check mounting holes, basin depth and the distance between the spout and bowl. A high tap needs a compatible basin to avoid an awkward splash pattern.
Confirm pressure compatibility
Compare available water pressure with the actual manufacturer’s requirements. A fitting should suit the system it will be connected to.
Look beyond the finish
Ask about the body material, cartridge, replacement parts and cleaning instructions. Check which finishes can be maintained with your usual cleaning routine.
Plan installation
Confirm connector sizes and access beneath the basin. Share the product details with your installer before work starts.
A high spout can look appealing in isolation. On a shallow basin, however, its reach and discharge position may be impractical. Place the tap and basin dimensions side by side, then review the mounting and available water conditions with the installer.
The aim is to reduce uncertainty before committing to a purchase or a scope of work. Keep the original observations and product details together so each person involved can check the same information.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Choosing finish before checking height and reach
- Assuming hoses and waste fittings are included
- Using a cleaning product without checking finish-care instructions
Three questions to bring
to the conversation.
You do not need to have every technical answer before asking for help. A clear description, relevant measurements and a few well-chosen questions give the discussion a useful starting point.
Prepare your project enquiry- Does the spout reach suit the basin?
- Can the lever move freely?
- Are compatible parts and maintenance instructions available?
Continue your project planning.
